Meet the maker : Lof lights
“The raw materials we grow in New Zealand have been so undervalued. We need designers to help elevate them.”
Lof recently featured in the latest issue of AA Directions magazine, in a conversation with writer Jo Percival about wool, design and why we started Lof. Jo came to our Waiheke studio to chat about the journey behind Lof, from Sophie’s years designing performance apparel overseas, to returning to New Zealand and discovering just how undervalued our strong wool industry had become. It was the beginning of a much bigger question: What if we could use design to create more value from the wool we grow here? Five years of research and development later, that question became Lof. The feature explores how we came to wool lighting, the acoustic qualities of wool, our New Zealand supply chain and our approach to designing products that are made to last.
A lovely opportunity to share a little more of the story behind Lof, and why we believe there is a very exciting future for New Zealand wool when we start looking at it through a designer’s eyes. And a real dream to see the story brought to life alongside some absolutely beautiful photography by local Waiheke photography master, Peter Rees. If you’re an AA member, you may have spotted the feature in the latest AA Directions magazine in your mailbox. The full story is also available to read online, and there’s a Lof light giveaway too.
