Frequently Asked Questions

  • When will my order ship?

At Lof, we work to a slower rhythm. Orders are packed with care in our Waiheke Island studio and shipped once a week. This steady pace helps us reduce emissions, minimise waste, and stay aligned with our values of considered making.

    Where do you ship to?

We currently ship across New Zealand and Australia. For other destinations, please email us at kiaora@lof.nz — we’ll explore options for you on a case-by-case basis.

    What are your shipping rates?

    • New Zealand: Flat rate $52 NZD per order, sent via tracked NZ Post Courier. Oversized items $98 NZD.

    • Australia: Flat rate $109 NZD per order. Tracked delivery via NZ Post / Australia Post takes approximately 2–6 working days. Oversized items $218 NZD.

For Australian orders over AUD $1,000, 10 % GST applies at customs. We provide a commercial invoice and certificate of origin for duty-free entry under the Australia–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.

Trade orders are charged shipping at cost, based on size, volume, and destination.

    Can I request urgent delivery?

If your project has a tight deadline, please reach out — we’ll always do our best to help.

  • How do I care for my Wool Light?

Caring for wool is simpler than you might think. Each fibre is coated in natural lanolin, helping to repel dust, dirt, and moisture. Most of the time, all your light needs is a gentle airing. If it needs a refresh, treat it as you would a delicate hand-knitted sweater — handle with care, and it will keep softening your space for years to come. Find more tips at lof.nz/woolcare.

What makes wool different from other lighting materials?

Wool combines performance with atmosphere. It diffuses light softly, absorbs sound, and brings a natural warmth and texture that hard materials cannot achieve.

Do wool lights help reduce noise?

Yes. Wool naturally absorbs sound, helping to reduce echo and soften acoustics in interior spaces. When used in lighting, this effect becomes part of the object itself, contributing to a calmer environment.

Will the natural white get dirty?

Surprisingly, no. Wool naturally repels dirt and dust. Thanks to its lanolin coating, it resists stains far better than cotton or linen.

    Is Wool UV-sensitive?

Like all natural fibres, wool can fade over time under strong UV light. A little sunlight is great for refreshing it, but avoid placing your light in areas of harsh, prolonged sun.
Protecting from direct UV helps it age beautifully — just like any well-loved natural material.

  • How do I install my light?

Installation should be carried out by a registered electrician. Clear instructions are included with every light.

What kind of bulb should I use?

We recommend warm, frosted LED bulbs for a soft glow. We prefer classic bulb shapes that use the latest LED technology — energy-efficient, warm, and timeless. Ideal spec: 8 W LED, 2700-3000K colour temperature (warm white), 350–800 lumens.

    Are Lof lights fire safe?

Yes. Wool is naturally fire-retardant up to ~600 °C. All electrical components are UL-certified and independently tested for safety.

  • Do you offer trade pricing?

Yes — we value long-term relationships, and offer trade pricing for interior designers, architects, specifiers, and developers who we work with. Please complete our trade form or email kiaora@lof.nz with details about your project.

    Can I borrow samples?

Absolutely. We offer a sample-loan service for trade customers and showrooms.
You can borrow knitted swatches or a pendant sample for client presentations or display. Email us with your business details and we’ll arrange this.

  • Do you accept returns?

We don’t accept returns for change of mind, so please choose carefully.
If your product has a manufacturing fault, email kiaora@lof.nz with photos and a description.

What if my light is faulty?

Once assessed, we’ll repair, replace, or refund your product where needed. For warranty claims due to manufacturing defects, Lof covers return shipping.

  • Where are Lof lights made?

All Lof lights are designed on Waiheke Island and made in Aotearoa New Zealand using locally sourced wool.

    What makes your lighting different?

Each Lof light connects material, craft, and place. Made from regenerative New Zealand wool, our lights bring acoustic comfort, natural warmth, and a softness that transforms spaces. Our design philosophy follows the Aotearoa tradition of doing more with less — creating purposeful beauty through simplicity, ingenuity, and respect for materials. We design products that restore rather than deplete, made to last and made with care.

    Why wool?

Wool is one of nature’s most circular fibres — renewable, biodegradable, and grown abundantly in Aotearoa. We source directly from Palliser Ridge Farm in the Wairarapa, where the wool is grown regeneratively and the farmers are paid fairly.
Each light celebrates that connection — from farm to studio, fibre to form.

    What is your design philosophy?

We believe good design is quietly radical: circular, local, and made to last.
Every Lof product is crafted with intention — to honour the material, support the maker, and light spaces with warmth and integrity.
