Hiwa 80

$3,200.00

A dramatic statement in knitted form and light.

The Hiwa 80 reimagines the classic large-volume pendant through the softness and structure of knitted wool. Designed for expansive interiors and generous ceiling heights, it brings sculptural presence to large open spaces while maintaining a remarkable sense of lightness. Despite its scale, the knitted wool form appears almost weightless — its softly faceted geometry and gentle curves introducing warmth, texture, and a quiet feminine elegance.

Perfect as a single feature over large dining tables or in high-stud living areas, the Hiwa 80 creates a warm focal point within the room. The concealed bulb softens glare, allowing the knitted wool to gently diffuse light and create a welcoming glow — bold in scale, yet always comfortably at home within the space.

The Hiwa 80 is part of our HIWA lighting family — a design study exploring how far high-micron New Zealand wool can be pushed as a lighting material. Working with locally grown strong wool — abundant, renewable, and underutilised — HIWA investigates the intrinsic stretch of knitted wool, using tension to create sculptural forms that feel both grounded and quietly celestial.

Named after Hiwa-i-te-rangi, the Matariki star associated with aspiration and new beginnings, the design features a faceted, star-like geometry shaped by the natural behaviour of knitted wool, with a subtle nod to historic garment construction techniques.

At the heart of HIWA is an exploration of New Zealand strong wool as a high-performance lighting material, using its natural properties to soften acoustics and diffuse light.

Crafted from undyed Romney wool grown at Palliser Ridge Farm in the Wairarapa, each piece carries a quiet connection to Aotearoa’s rural landscape, bringing warmth and texture to architectural spaces.

Made from 100% certified regenerative New Zealand strong wool, the Hiwa 80 reflects a commitment to circular design, natural materials, and local craftsmanship. Designed and assembled by hand on Waiheke Island, and made in Aotearoa New Zealand.
